Day to Night: In the Field with Stephen Wilkes

National Geographic Museum

This 5,000-square-foot exhibition showcased the recent work of photographer Stephen Wilkes, highlighting four critical locations along major bird migration routes. More than documentary photographs, Wilkes' images are created by compositing thousands of digital frames into a single photograph that captures the passage of an entire day.

The exhibition introduced visitors to Wilkes' career and creative process, tracing his evolution from photographing urban landscapes to his acclaimed work for National Geographic. At the heart of the exhibition were four monumental photographic panels that organized the gallery into a series of smaller thematic spaces, each featuring supporting prints and interpretive content.
